Description of the different categories of Item Conditions
Here you’ll find detailed explanations of the individual condition categories used by retrospiel. If you have any questions about the condition of a specific item, please just send us a message before making a purchase.
-NEW-
When we list an item as “new,” it means that the item is truly brand-new and unused. If the item was shipped by the manufacturer in its original packaging, with a seal, or in protective film, this also applies to our listing.
-MINT CONDITION-
An item in mint condition is often still unused and in like-new collector's condition without noticable signs of use or storage. Media such as CDs, DVDs, or Blu-rays are scratch-free. The original packaging has no damage, no dog-ears, and no tears or rips.
An item we classify as mint may also be suitable for grading by external grading services such as WATA or VGA.
Please note that we cannot rule out the possibility that any included download codes may have already been redeemed or may have expired over time.
-VERY GOOD CONDITION-
Items in very good condition are still excellent as collectibles and show only minimal signs of use. Data storage media such as CDs and DVDs have no scratches at all, or if they do, only very few fine scratches that do not interfere with playback. Blu-rays are scratch-free.
While original packaging may show minor signs of use or storage here and there, it is free of damage such as tears, rips, discoloration, or water stains.
For low-priced items, plastic sleeves may have been replaced with high-quality replacement sleeves from third-party manufacturers.
Any included download codes may have already been redeemed or may have expired over time.
-USED-
If we describe an item as used, it has clearly visible signs of wear that detract from its overall appearance but do not affect playback.
This may include external damage to the outer packaging, manual, or game cartridge, such as tears, discoloration (“sunfade”), or water stains.
Data storage media such as CDs or DVDs may have a few minor scratches that generally do not affect playback. Blu-rays are scratch-free. (We do not sell data storage media with severe damage; if we do, it is only explicitly labeled as “defective,” see below).
Plastic cases may have been replaced with high-quality replacement cases from third-party manufacturers.
Any included download codes may have already been redeemed or may have expired over time.
Games listed as used are only of limited value as collector’s items, but could serve as placeholders (for a future upgrade)—or simply for playing!
-DEFECTIVE (FOR DIY ENTHUSIASTS)-
Items labeled as defective have significant defects or damage, so they are likely to be of interest only to DIY enthusiasts. It’s also possible that, for example, some parts are missing or there are other significant issues.
We offer items categorized as “defective” only in rare, exceptional cases and with no warranty, exchange, or return.
